Mayor Willie Herenton announced he will leave office effective July 31. It’s not clear why Herenton is resigning but there is a rumor he may be a candidate for the job of superintendent of Memphis City Schools. Some are saying Herenton could run for the 9th district Congressional seat currently held by Sen. Steve Cohen. All of these ideas are interesting and could potentially be true. Herenton could been seen as the savior of Memphis schools if he can make even a slight improvement. Herenton could possible carry the 9th district race because of his immense popularity in the black community and crossover appeal in the white community. There’s been speculation since he won re-election in November that he would step down, though many thought it would be at least a year.

Its gonna be a great day in Memfrica. Will AC take over?
I would resign also if I was about to be hauled into court,,better than being forced out. Property Values in Memphis just increased with his annoucement.
Good Riddance.
HALLELUAH!! He can take Godwin and the rest of his cronies with him!
I’m not going to be a hater, but I’m elated by this announcement. All the speculation is rather amusing (he’s going to become superindendant of MCS again, he’s about to be indicted, etc.). It’s been obvious for quite a while that’s lost interest in the job, and a very tough job it is, one that can’t be done well at all if you don’t have the heart for it.
I’m ready for someone new to take over and unite this city. Herman Morris and Carol Chumney both pretty much disappeared after the election, and I think both are viewed as “enemies” by Herenton supporters. Myron Lowery is the most viable candidate from the city council, but I think the very best thing would be for AC Wharton to leave the county and run for city mayor. I don’t really see any other viable candidates right now.
At this point, we need someone who enjoys overwhelming support in various segments of our community.
Herenton is not dumb!!! This has been done for a reason. Herenton is either under indictment, has a better job lined up, or is trying some back door way to consolidate Memphis and Shelby County. Something fishy is going on………….
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…………….
Wow!!
This should be a day of celebration. Maybe this will be the turning point in Memphis. The only thing to do is look up now. Maybe I will move back home. Man, I am in shock. I don’t know what to say. They will have to do a intrum mayor now, I wonder does this open the door for AC to come in.
AC is a stand up guy and I don’t think he will resign his post in the county for this. He may run in the next election.
So now I wonder. Did AC lay in wait because he knew that the mayor may be indicted?
I wonder…..
Be careful leaving work today, there are people DANCING in the streets!!!!!!!!!!
Isn’t it funny how there is not one person sad?
He would not be stepping down unless something was up. He had been offered a deal to either step down or be exposed for some sort of scandal.
Why would anyone want him over our school system? He is the one who screwed everything up and then ran for mayor and stuck us with paying him both his exit pay for being Superintendent and collected salary as mayor.
So thanks for the 16 years! In the time you have been mayor crime has gone up, the city has made stupid deals that have blocked the profitable use of major civic buildings, and for someone so concerned about education it is great that you got rid of our award winning library director and plan to shut down several libraries in some really needy neighborhoods. I guess you would have had the money to run those services if you had not handed out all those outragous raises.
Can the next mayor retract those raises?
Oh, and every corner in this city is covered with people panhandling! Thanks for making the neighborhoods so nice and attractive.

Herenton’s sudden resignation just after taking office for a 5th term suggests he was more interested in blocking Morris or Chumney from becoming mayor than actually serving himself. Given his ego, that is not difficult to believe. At least now I understand why he refused to debate those candidates. Obviously he did not care to spell out what he expected to do for Memphis during a term that he never had any intention of serving. Also, he probably did not want to risk having anyone ask if he might not serve out his 5th term.
The idea of this man becoming superintendent gives me chills. It would be a good idea if the news media researched the sex scandals that occurred during his tenure as superintendent. Does anyone remember the Iranian lady from that time?
Its about time Herenton resigned. Memphis needs to heal. I just hope Herenton is really going to be gone.
Memphis Politics by Design.
This ‘resignation’ will more than likely have little effect on improving the function of government in this city, and, as always, the entire region will continue to suffer the mismanagement of what SHOULD be a great city.
Even still, getting Herenton out of office DOES bring a grin to my face.
I just got home and WW Humpinton sure knows how to make my day! THANKS WILLIE!!!!
Now, seriously though. Can you say Federal Indictment? He is going to be indicted for these money shenanigans he has been up to for years. That is his sole reason for stepping down. He is in hopes that this will lessen his time or penalties.
Go FBI! Thanks guys!
Yep I’m happy, the Great Divider is going to be gone. Sad part is that he’s leaving on his own, instead of being voted out but then again he did use his buddy Morris as his blocker this last election.
I’m going to hold off celebrating for now. As far as AC goes, I thought he was a standup guy at one time. As I said in a much earlier topic post, he has stated drinking koolaid with Silly Willie. In fact they got one Big Gulp cup and had two straws drinking at the same time. We all know what its going to take to straighten this mess out. It certainly wont be , Fords, Lowery, Morris, or AC. Like I said, WE KNOW.
“Why would anyone want him over our school system? ”
The school system needs a fresh face with fresh ideas. Isn’t Willie nearing retirement?
What did AC Wharton do to make you think he’s not a stand-up guy? Being civil to and having a working relationship with other elected officials is something politicians are supposed to do. Wharton seems to get along well with all the suburban mayors, too. Like each other or not, you’re supposed to still be able to work together. I don’t personally know how he feels about Willie Herenton, but it really shouldn’t matter.
And as far as Morris, he and Willie Herenton are pretty much sworn enemies. It’s funny how people who voted for Chumney blame Morris for Herenton winning and people who voted for Morris blame Chumney for Herenton winning. I’ve heard several people say one of them should have stepped down before the election, but everybody wanted the OTHER CANDIDATE to step down and would have been very angry if their own candidate had stepped down.
jimwtngent, I remember the scandal with the Iranian teacher. I was actually a student at the school she was a teacher at. Willie was up there alot. As a young naive child, I thought he cared about the school system. Boy did I find out differently. I’m not so stupid anymore. I am glad he is resigning as the mayor, but God help us all if he becomes “SUPER” of the school system again. I can promise you that We might very well be looking for a place out side of the city. In the mean time, lets pray that someone with all citizens on his/her mind will be put into office. Lets get this city back from the wraths of hell. We can do it now for sure.
It is about time. This is the best news I have seen in a while. He is the reason I moved my
Family to Desoto County. I think the future of Memphis is looking brighter now.
I would just like to make a comment on Herenton’s resignation. IT’S A GOOD DAY FOR MEMPHIS. I don’t live in Memphis and if I did I would have moved away a long time ago, because this is a perfect example of the poorest kind of leadership I’ve ever seen. I think Memphis only has room to improve from now on. Wish this would have happened years ago.
Praise God, the man is leaving office. I have patiently waited to see this awful man leave office. He is absolutely awful. He has done absolutely NOTHING for Memephis except put a couple fo more illegit kids on welfare. I say good ridance to bad rubbish.Memphis needs someone with the city’s best interest at heart and it has never been Willie _”Tater Head” Herenton. He has been a joke for years and was too stupid to realize. Please don’t allow him back into the school system your kids would really be messed up. I say everyone move out of the city limits and leave Herenton to teach the kids that he fathered out of Wedlock and with city employees.. Just to let ya know Mississippi is a great place to be.
Herenton finally does one right thing while in office! Where are we having the celebration party tonight??
This is good news, but do not get too excited about the prospects.
Based on the recent history of memfrica, the replacement will likely be a black, of a like ilk & disposition, although, probably not as long. … More incompetent black leadership. Get it?
The only thing that would have, even, a remote possibility of stopping, or slowing, the memfrica train wreck would be smart, white leadership. That’s unlikely to occur due to the 70b/30W demographics.
Don’t put away your suitcases. More of the “same ole, same ole” on the way.
BTW, some look at Wharton as a potential savior. Forget about that one … he’s done absolutely nothing as county mayor, except keep his mouth shut and let things run on cruise control.
Copy & save this “jewel” of prophecy, as it will probably be deleted by the fascists.
This indeed is a good thing for the soul and quality of life in Memphis. We have the higest property tax rate in Tennessee but reduced services. Very high crime is here and the mayor shrugs his shoulders and can’t do anything. He dismanteled the gang unit, drug enforcement unit and hired felons to oversee security issues. Ran our debt up to the ceiling and lowered the bond rating with his ineffective management. He polarized the city by running on the fact that he was black and was here to stay. Took money and favors from his “friends” that he gave city no bid contracts to and other felons. His overuse of patronage jobs, 400 rather than the 100, allowed is just the tip of the cost born by the taxpayers for his wanton ways. And, that is even before you consider the embarassment of his announcement of his newest babies momma and the kind of example his thugness sets for the teens in the area. Yes, this is a good thing and we now can move ahead and upward.
But, BEWARE. Do not let this man near children or the honey pot of women that he seems, even as a senior citizen, cannot leave alone. His pal Wharton got the files closed on the sexual harrassment suit filed by TWO women that were paid off by the system before they bought out his contract and he hoisted himself on us as mayor. He does not have the ability to run the schools and is not an example that you would want to hold up to children.

==============================================================================
Fly, you are right on target with that one. In 1991, 200 white people slept in that day and the big black boogie man snuck in.
WHITE PEOPLE OF MEMPHIS. THIS TIME GET UP OFF YOUR COMPLACENT RUMPS AND GO VOTE THIS TIME ! Do not be afraid. If you have to roll granma from the nursing home to the polls, DO IT ! You can’t stand united when you sit on your tail wating for your neighbor to take care of it!
Yo tj21,
Good morning. Does this mean your city job may be in jeopardy?
Dozens of city jobs are now at risk!!!! Maybe hundreds !!! I bet a bunch of folks are on pins and needles today. Thank God
… as they should be. The level of incompetence and sloth at city hall is legendary.
Hey, how about hizzhonor wanting to put his “finishing touches” on the school system???
He steered it south, to begin with.
Can you comprehend the gall of this idiot???
Hey George, where did the news disappear to???
BTW, it’s not “dozens” of jobs, it’s hundreds of jobs.
Don’t you recall hizzhonor appointing ~300 cronies over what the city charter allows???
I would step down to, if I was the Mayor of this racist city. Mayor Willie Willie has down a lot of good for Memphis. But Memphians want admitt it,cause of their veiws. You see the Mayor tried to get Casino’s in Memphis, but the Pastors of Memphis shot that down and know you look at Mississippi and they have money coming out of all directions. Before you leave Mayor, see if the Pastors of Memphis will give some of their tithes to the Memphis City Schools for the kids of Memphis to have a better educations. I bet you want see that happening anytime soon. The Pastors of Memphis would rather the schools suffer than give up some of the tithes that they receive tax free. Open your eyes Memphians, you have been given plenty of oppertunities to stop raising property taxes but your to racist to have a BLACK man at the top, to receive the credit for doing that. I am ashamed of all the leaders that think they know how to run a city. Let’s see what happens when you elected someone else to replace him. Will you change or stay the same.
================================
From George: If people here are too racist to give credit to a black male in power how do you explain A C Wharton’s warm reception?
Unknown
Chumney should have been mayor to begin with. Willie screwed up the school system when he was superintendent and then he had to screw up the city. For some unknown reason he thinks he is GOD ALMIGHTY. He talks this big talk and does nothing but cause more problems. He accuses everyone of being a racist, but he dosen’t realize when he starts pointing fingers at people he has three fingers pointing back at him. He is such a racist himself that he can’t control a school system or a city. Willie wants what will work for him. NOT the citizens of Memphis or the students of the Memphis City Schools. I really hope the school board and the city of Memphis will put someone in these jobs that have strength to do the job that is suppose to be done. Someone who will go that extra mile to get this city and the school system back on track.
It won’t be soon enough to get him out.
I have lived in Memphis for 16 years and this administration is the worst, I have even seen in any city.
Not only is the educational system just a real disaster, even when he was Superintendent, but the leadership and concern for small business, visitor images of the city and the racial divide are among the worst.
The support team for the Mayor including the City Council both past and present.
Have no idea how to move a city forward, and the appointments under this Administration have little if any experience to lead or keep the positions given. To think that Memphis has no crime problem or educational problem would leave one to wonder where the current leadership lives and works.
A welcome change would be good for the entire city. Especially the African American community.
AKA- David A
Im not a big Herenton fan but I can see where burn out has set in. Herenton needs a change and I think he would be a good find for the Board of Education. He took over the City school system one year before I graduated and some positive changes were being made. The students were held more responsible for their actions be it good or bad. I agree with his tough love and corporal punishment(paddling) solution to handle these out of control youth. This process will improve the safety and learning enviroment for the children. My hope is that there is no underlying reason that has yet to rear its ugly head as for his resignation as mayor. The waters have been awful murky for the last few years. Id like to see the City and County government merge with Wharton as mayor. Then maybe the departments could be united with one true and tested leader in place. Yes, there could be peace in the Memphis Promise Land and people could come together as one. Black and White Can Unite ! Thats my prayer ! Also GO TIGERS !
The best thing for Memphis right now is for all complacent voters to go to the Polls and vote. Before that though, go recruit a good candidate that can stand for all of Memphis. That is above board, honorable and has morals. Not self-centered and not an egomaniac. Recruit good, then VOTE hard!
Memphis can change!
Honestly, the only good thing that Memphis has is Beale Street and the downtown refurbishing and the Redbirds. Would they have had that with Hackett? They didn’t. I’m not a Herenton fan, but Memphis before him was a joke (downtown run by panhandlers at the Greyhound Bus Depot, the Chicks and that godawful stadium, Pepper Rodgers and the NFL pitch of “We’ve already got a stadium” and finally, a Pyramid that COULD HAVE BEEN the NFL stadium had you people had some semblance of foresight. And still, a good portion of your residential tax base is in Northwest Mississippi. So it’s not like a great job to have. Is Prince Mango still out there?
if he can’t run the city, congress is out.
The day Willie leaves will be the greatest blessing this city has ever experienced.
Mayor Harrington is not a smart man, he is cunning like a theif. If he was smart, Memphis would be building a statues in his likeness. In his first and centainly his second term, King Willie had the support of both the Democrats, Republicans, blacks, whites and the business community. Instead of taking that support and building a great community, he choose to divide, to conive and to turn a deaf ear to anyone who disagreed with him. To his detractors, instead of debating, he told them to leave, instead of listening to citizens he gave ego laced press conferences. An now, he puts the city thru a bitter election, gives huge raises and promotions to his cronies and then says he is going to resign but not until July 31!! What havac will he create before July 31st?
King Willie has three stars in a his crown and is lacking the last and 4th star. Star 1, he ruined the Memphis City Schools, star 2, he ruined the city of Memphis, Star 3, he ruined MLG&W. That final star he wants for his crown is to ruin Shelby County. AC Wharton is King Willie’s toady and will do what the King wants i.e. quit the run of the Kings chair last summer.
All of Shelby County beware, deals for consolidation, surrender of the city’s Charter, appointment of AC as city Mayor are all possibilities.
Worse choice of all is King Willie as School Super. The man was fired originally for ruining the school system, who in their right mind would rehire such a failure!!!
Beware the cunning theif, he comes when least expected to do his evil work!!
Yes, Mayor Herenton is stepping down. So I guess all of you bigots and racist morons are jumping for joy, huh? I guess you think you’re going to reclaim this city for yourselves, right? In someone’s post, they claimed Chumney should have been mayor all the time. You people aren’t very bright. The fact of the matter is, a new mayor will be sworn in, but more likely than not, it will not be Chumney or any other Caucasian, for that matter.
For one thing, none of you, especially those of you who participated in white flight in the 80’s are not qualified to criticize Herenton or even Rickey Peete for that matter. Whereas Peete was and is a crook, he represented one of the more racially diverse districts in this city. In order for him to return to office, many whites had to vote for him…and you did. You wanted a crook, and you got him. Herenton was and is a net good for this city. He is far better than Hackett ever could have been, with his less than adequate education. Chandler and others were nothing more than holdovers from the Boss Crump days. Chumney? Please…if you knew more about this woman’s personal life, I doubt any of you hypocritical, pseudo-pious conservatives would vote for her. But, I already know you’re going to try to steal this election. That’s the only way a Republican can win the mayoral seat in this city: steal it! We have been led by incompetent, racist Republican goofs for eight years, and we’re not happy with these idiots. What in the hell makes you think we’ll allow some unqualified, racist bigot run this city?
Fools like Fly and his supporters demonstrate how far this region has not come, and how much we don’t need to unite with any of you. Many of you are jealous of Herenton’s credentials. Unlike fly, Herenton has real education from a real college, not some phantom degree from a college Fly picked off the internet. You talk all this “he’s arrogant” crap, when the truth of the matter is he ran this city, not you. He let you know that a black man was this city’s mayor, and he would not bow to the will of the whites in this area. You couldn’t stand it. He beat your hand-picked candidate last election, and now, you think she’s going to win this time? I don’t think so. No Republican is going to run this city unless he or she is appointed. Don’t hand me this garbage on McCormick. Twenty days isn’t long enough to establish any real changes in city government. So celebrate while you can. After the next election, you’ll be on this website whining again. Oh and Fly…there is no room for you in Memphis, or whatever you want to call it. You don’t have any education, you’re a petty self-absorbed bigot…and you’re on your way out.
TJ,
I sorta agree with most of what you have said. Carol Chubby, wouldn’t make a good mayor. Hackett, well , you know how I feel about him. He and Flinn are missing parts of their, well you know. Chandler was alright for a drunk that hung out at Georges Bar in Overton Square in the 70’s. Herenton wasted a lot of money. Rickey Peete wasted a lot of dope. I really don’t care about it because I don’t live in Memphis, but I hope they get somebody in there that you like. I hope for your sake he is a Democrat and I hope he is black. Not like the Fords or Obama. I hope he is Real black.
See I got issues with my own mayor. She flip flops more tha a fish just out of the water. She said some stuff on TV the other day I just dont understand. She said that what ever Memphis does affects us. It never has before. She needs to understand that the people who moved here from Memphis, did it to get away from Memphis. Not to someday join up with it , or to be like it. If she keeps this kind of talk up. I’ll do everything in my power to see she doesn’t get re-elected again.
You see TJ, she is arrogant too. I can email any suburban mayor in Shelby Co. and get a response. She doesn’t respond. Since she loves Memphis so much, maybe SHE should run for mayor of Memphis.
C’mon Mrs.Kerley, go for it.
David Duke for Mayor!
TJ, that is about as stupid as defending mayor Humpington.
He has done othing but screw Memphis up since he got there. How can you defend him when in other posts you have even run him down? He was and is a loser.
Memphis needs a leader with substance, morals, ethics and no over inflated ego. The key, a LEADER.
How wrong can you be??? Emigrants from memphis, during the ’80’s, ’90’s & the ’00’s are the best qualified to speak on this issue, you fool!
Many of these pioneers uprooted their families from long time domiciles, some took losses on their homes, and all ventured into brand new environments.
These earlier emigrants, from the 80’s, were a bit “ahead of the curve” with their a*s*s*essment of the memphis “condition”, and have had their wise decision validated many times over.
Here’s why, dumb one:
- their house values has risen dramatically, whereas Memphis values have been stagnant, or fell.
- their tax burder decreased significantly.
- their children have had access to excellent public education.
- they have enjoyed a relatively crime free existence for all the years, since they departed Memphis.
Now, tell me again why they aren’t qualified to comment on the Memphis condition. They were the seers of this disaster. … The wiser ones!
“Oh and Fly…there is no room for you in Memphis, or whatever you want to call it. You don’t have any education, you’re a petty self-absorbed bigot…and you’re on your way out.”
=============
At tj21:
You are the one who will soon be finding out he has not a nest.
Whoever the new mayor is, will no doubt, perform a major housecleaning in city personnel. The parasitic dust mites, like yourself, will be looking for some other employer to sustain their paltry existence. (McD’s, Kroger, Schnuck’s, etc.)
You are losers, and cannot compete effectively in private industry. Your dumb butt sits in city hall for one reason, and one reason only … because of hizzhonor’s personal affirmative action program for losers who are unemployable in private industry.
DANG !
Fly,
Please don’t be mean to TJ. I just found out that he rides one of those short special MATA buses to work every day. He’s special needs, and he needs alot. Oh Fly please be nice.
Herenton said he finds it curious that among some 12,600 contracts valued at more than $2 billion that he has signed over the years, federal authorities and the news media have chosen to scrutinize a handful of contracts with African-American businessmen. Like Herenton, Moon is black.
“Ninety-five percent of the contracts were with white folks,” he said. Contracts with minorities have been targeted because of “selective prosecution and slanting,” he said.
Nonetheless, the federal investigation is only intensifying.
———————-
What hizzhonor neglects to mention is that he received $50,000 from a city minority contractor, from Los Angeles, for absolutely nothing in return.
Isn’t that the favorite defense for thieving corrupt practices, by politicians locally …. “They’re picking on me because I’m black”.
Something more to ponder ….
It’s interesting that hizzhonor is pulling out the race card so very early in the Fed’s probe into his dealings. I’m quite sure we will see much more of this smoke coming out of his nostrils, as the probe deepens into his crony minority contractors.
It’s apparent to most thinkers, that this preferential treatment for his friends has done nothing to help minorities in the city. … It’s only allowed his “chosen few” to live large on the taxpayer dime, while providing unnecessary, or diminished, services to the city.
It’s also interesting that every one of the recently “convicted for corruption while in office” black politicians have played the same card, to no avail. EVERY ONE!
Most pled guilty, the remainder convicted by a jury of their peers. There have been NO persecuted “innocents”, here.
I sincerely hope the Feds dig up every tainted nickel spent on his buds!
Fly, you kinda talk over my head. If you are saying that if it takes some whites to go to jail to get Mayor Huff-n-Puff in there also then I’m with ya. We call that collateral damage.
“He let you know that a black man was this city’s mayor, and he would not bow to the will of the whites in this area.”
He didn’t even bend to the will of the black people who elected him and expected for him lead this city! Many black families are still as homeless and po’ as when he first came onto the scene. Even your bud admitted that he has bamboozled the black community. I see tj21 sitting there wearing his favorite t-shirt fuming!
mrwhitey,
tj21 has nothing to offer to an adult dialoque.
All he is capable of is hollering “bigot” and “racist” while ignoring readily documentable facts.
At times, his rants are humorous … only because they are riddled with spelling / grammar errors, and are illogical.
The facts are what they are.
To ignore the facts is stupid. To attribute the cause to something other than what it really is is stupid also.
All a rational person needs to do is to look around. … See the same “culprits” in every city, every country??? I do.
That’s the real world, not tj21’s excuse ridden fantasy land. Look at what you’re dealing with.
Again, the facts speak for themselves. They are what they are.
Awww…does anybody need a tissue? All of this whining, it sounds like some of you need to be potty trained. At the idiot, bigoted fly: Facts can change; the truth never does. You have not participated in an “adult dialogue” ever since you’ve been on this forum. All you’ve done is point your high and mighty finger at blacks, insult them, blame then for everything…oh yeah, that’s real adult of you. The real world is, son, there is no room for your type anymore, This nation is changing, and you a relic of a shameful past. Your “facts” are nothing more than recycled stories that you plagiarize, then put a racial spin to them. Oh yeah, more evidence of your “adultness”. You’re uneducated, jealous of blacks, and whine about the same things: high taxes (baby crying). None of you have said a word about high gas prices. None of you have said a word about high energy prices. Oh, that’s because you can’t blame blacks for that one. “David Duke for mayor”? Most of you would love that.
Yo tj21!
I have been wondering where you been. How are you?
How about meeting for lunch?
As I’ve said many times, the absolute last thing tj will address is facts.
He’ll hurl his limp insults, and accusations of racism, BUT, will not address any facts.
Sound familiar??? Sure does, to me.
We see it all the time. Wonder why there is no change, or improvement???
I don’t.
Impaired tj stated:
“Facts can change; the truth never does.”
—————-
Oh my … right of the blocks, you put your foot in your mouth. Did I expect anything else from you? NO!
You’re performing as expected.
To tj: “All you’ve done is point your high and mighty finger at blacks, insult them, blame then for everything…”
Looks to me like you have the finger in the air pointing out that you are the better one. I say we all are great in our own way each person will have the good points and bad ones we are only human.
“None of you have said a word about high energy prices. Oh, that’s because you can’t blame blacks for that one.”
The topic is about the mayor not the price of gas but if it makes you happy the price has gotten way out of hand, its to the point that you really can only afford to drive to work then right back home anything outside those two places will hit the pocket book hard.
Now on to the REAL topic, now that the mighty tj has been appeased. The mayor leaving office has to be the best thing that Memphis has seen in the last 16 years since he made it to mayor. He has done NOTHING but play the races against each other, claims he is an active supporter of the black community yet does NOTHING for them.
I feel that no matter who takes his place be it black, white, green or blue it has to be better than what we have been dealing with for the last good couple of years, maybe we can ACTUALLY start to work on the issues that have held back this city for so long.
And now that he is out of office he wants to tackle the MCS super position, why so he can run down our children like he ran down the city…Memphians and the board of education would be the biggest bunch of fools known to man if they where to even look at this mans app.
TJ21: “The real world is, son”.
Hey Fly, is TJ yo daddy? ROFLOL
Now that’s scary!
BTW,
Thud Matthews is pumping Thomas Long for mayor.
He listed some of Long’s bogus credential claims (licenses in real estate & insurance), which I promptly debunked by determining he had not the licenses he claimed, via license lookups at the Tennessee website.
Now, I believe I’ll verify Long’s claim to an accounting degree from Tennessee State. Somehow, I think there will be a problem with that claim too.
The number of “questionable” academic qualifications in city & county government is amazing.
Take, as a “for instance”, Keith McGee’s (perhaps, your interim mayor) claim that he has a degree from Thomas Edison College, in New Jersey. It’s quite unlikely he actually has a degree, however, if he does it isn’t worth squat. That institution is a well known diploma mill, where one can get a “degree” via submitting “life experiences” to substitute for actual coursework and examinations.
Take a look on the city’s website. McGee also claims to be a “National Professional Speaker”.
Can you imagine that??? Have you ever heard him trying to mumble a coherent thought???
It’s amazing what Memphis has degenerated to.
Another potential mayoral candidate: Judge Joe Brown. Here’s an old (2000) Memphis Flyer article where the TV judge expressed interest in running for Memphis mayor.
http://weeklywire.com/ww/08-21-00/memphis_cvr.html
Not a big fan of his, personally, but he could make another interesting candidate.
yoo hoo …. tj21, are you online today?
“The real world is, son, there is no room for your type anymore, This nation is changing, and you a relic of a shameful past. ”
Stay in your denial miserable child…hate groups are alive and well in America and there is a huge growth in both black and white hate groups and they all are being exposed for their hated (like you are exposed on here daily).
Are you still crying about Willie bamboozling the black flock? Ha ha! Do you smell an indictment coming? Willie does, lol! This is why he is trying to hightail it off of his throne – doesn’t want to be the first sitting (black) mayor of Memphis to be indicted and convicted for corruption.
“does anybody need a tissue? All of this whining”
Tears of joy do not require a box of Kleenex! Let the tears freely flow…celebrate good times, come on!!!
Thank you, Southern Gentleman. There will always be those who suffer from a victim’s mindset, and their recording got stuck a long time ago. That’s why they repeat themselves-repeat themselves-repeat themsssss-repeeeeeeee……..
Whooooooo. I’m tired, y’all. All the dancing in the street I did over the weekend, and now it’s Monday….
Seriously, though – I cannot help but wonder who’s bought off whom, and for how much. This just seems a little TOO convenient. Follow the money. He’ll be just like John (You Can’t Put Me In Jail – I’ve Got Kids To Feed) Ford. Then the slow-learning black community will see what the rest of us already knew – another crook taking all of us, black and white, to the cleaners. Then we’ll be back to the victims’ whine recording again….
Man, I don’t understand something. How can anybody defend a man that has not done anything for a city? How can you put what he has or has not done, compare it to gas and energy problem (from what I understand, that comes out of the Bush Administration, not the mayors adminstration). I don’t understand what a new football stadium would do for Memphis? I live in a NFL city, and let me tell you, the NFL is no more interested in putting a team in Memphis than Bush is concerned about the Katrina victims.
I guess the people that support this man, has not been out of Memphis in the past 10-15 years. Not even looked at CNN or any of the National news channels (including FOX). What was done downtown, that includes that beautiful stadium was done basically from the Federal Govenment grant to renew downtown. Tearing down LeMoyne Gardens and the other projects were federal funded as well. All major cities were doing urban renewal at that time. That was not on the mayor.
Look, I want to see change. I want black people to change their mindset that a black man has to lead Memphis. It can happen, but just like a white man or an hispanic man, have Memphis in its best intrest instead of waisting more money and time. And for whites to get out and vote and not lay down and use the excuse that because Memphis is majority black, there going to put in who they want. That is an excuse and you have the right to exercise your voice responsibly.
We all have to change this racist mentality and bring the city together.
Thank you, peb – very cogent and succinct.
“Man, I don’t understand something. How can anybody defend a man that has not done anything for a city?”
PEB, you don’t know how potent that KOOL-AID is. Even the drinkers (tj21) don’t understand it – they just drink and defend (along color lines). They know not what they do. But anyone who lives or has ever lived lived outside the city of Memphis can see it (the prevailing ignorance) very clearly.
Herenton does not deserve the school board position. Let him keep the mayor job that he doesn’t want and let him deal with his indictments when it comes across his desk.
Now the king is holding the city as hostage. He is now saying he will remain king of the city unless he gets the school super job. UnReal.
Is there anyone who can just put a boot up his ars and let us be done with it ????? Will that be the FBI?
Scuttlebutt now has it (11:41 a.m., 3/24) that Silly Willie is now saying that if he is not given the school superintendent’s job, he will ‘unresign’ and we’ll still be stuck with him. I say, he’s already resigned – let’s hold him to it, and when he’s out of this job and doesn’t get that one either, then we’ll let him become a guest of the State (or the FBI?). Like I said, shades of John (I’ve got kids to feed) Ford.
Go to the main RANT page, y’all – George just posted a topic about Silly Willie ‘unresigning’.
Well, Willie meets all of the most reverend Whalum’s requirements, Male and Black. What more could you ask for in the top educator’s resume’.
huh?
