herenton sex plot may be for real

A pre-liminary report by a special report indicates there may be truth to allegations of a sex plot against mayor Willie Herenton. Prosecutor Joe Baugh told News Channel 3 he believes Gwen Smith has credibility. Smith alleges powerful businessmen tried to hire her to snare Herenton into a sex plot. The TBI along with Baugh interviewed Herenton last week. Herenton said God revealed the plan which came out as Herenton was falling behind in polls during the race for mayor. The mayor has a copy of the preliminary report which has not been released to the public.

Weeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllll now…and according to many people on this forum (most of them being detractors and critics of the mayor), this was a political ploy on his part. Now, it may be real? Say it ain’t so, George! Who has egg on their face now?
But seriously, this is not a good day for Memphis. This does nothing more than feed into the mistrust both races have concerning one another. Whites who felt it was a trick to get re-elected will simply feel it still is not true, while many blacks who believed it was true from the very beginning now have ammunition to promote some of their own racial myths. The fact of the matter is, the one thing that plagues this city more than crime is racial mistrust of one another. No matter how you slice it, this is not good. No businessman or men should be interfering in local politics, unless they are running for office. Overall, this spells more problems…and possibly, more money going somewhere.

I’ll wait until the final investigation is complete. If any laws were broken, then the perpetrators need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Whatever the outcome, my views of this arrogant mayor remain the same.

If the laws were broken then send them to jail as well. But, what law is there against offering a lustful man what he wants? What I mean is this, the vice cops offer lures to men to try to arrest the customers. What difference is it on this one? He is a customer….sorry, but true in a figure of speech.

This indictment is not against Herenton, fed…it’s about the lady who claimed businessmen in Memphis asked her to set the mayor up. It’s actually may involve a board member for Memphis Light Gas & Robbery. Herenton isn’t going to jail. Hate to burst your bubble.

    To answer your question:

Making a “citizen’s arrest” is a very tricky process. If you do the wrong thing, you can very easily find yourself getting prosecuted for false imprisonment, slavery (yes enslavement), and a whole host of other crimes.
These men acted in the place of the government. No private citizen has the right to act on behalf of the government, unless there is a crime afoot, and someone’s life is in danger. The government has psecific guidelines they must follow before they can investigate anyone. Just becasue you feel like an elected official needs to go does not give you or me the right to create evidence against him. Also, there is a such thing as entrapment.

    In what way?

  10. 10 tj21
    March 27, 2008 at 5:31 pm

One way was trying to create a case against Herenton. Who knows where this information may have went, or to whom.

For the record, I have no idea what that indictment reads. But, entrapment is a crime. what they may have been trying to do is create a situation where the mayor broke the law, then try to use this act as proof of his guilt. That is the essence of entrapment. The police create a situation that clearly is criminal but is almost impossible for a resonably prudent person to resist, then they arrest him or her for doing the act.

Here is a new (old) theme song for Willie:

    North side , east side
Little Willy, Willy wears the crown, he’s the king around town
    Dancing, glancing
Willy drives them silly with his star shoe shimmy shuffle down
Way past one, and feeling allright
‘Cos with little Willy round they can last all night
Hey down, stay down, stay down down

‘Cos little Willy, Willy won’t go home
But you can’t push Willy round
Willy won’t go, try tellin’ everybody but, oh no
Little Willy, Willy won’t go home

    Up town, down town
Little Willy, Willy drives them wild with his run-around style
    Inside, outside
Willy sends them silly with his star-shine shimmy shuffle smile
Mama done chase Willy down through the hall
But laugh, Willy laugh, he don’t care at all
Hey down, stay down, stay down, down

‘Cos little Willy, Willy won’t go home
But you can’t push Willy round
Willy won’t go, try tellin’ everybody but, oh no
Little Willy, Willy won’t go home

    Little Willy, Willy won’t
    Willy won’t, Willy won’t
    Little Willy, Willy won’t
    Willy won’t, Willy won’t
    Little Willy, Willy won’t
    Willy won’t, Willy won’t
    Little Willy, Willy won’t
    Willy won’t, Willy won’t

Little Willy, Willy won’t go home
But you can’t push Willy round
Willy won’t go, try tellin’ everybody but, oh no
Little Willy, Willy won’t go home

Little Willy, Willy won’t go home

I noticed on the News, that it said that she was acting on the behalf of 3 quote “POWERFUL” business men. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what businesses these people represent and what their motive would be for cooking up this whole thing? I mean, disliking a mayor is one thing, but putting together an elaborate and bizarre plan such as this one, is an entirely different matter. If these men were not working for someone and acting alone, what position would they have held, that would have motivated them to do something like this? I mean, as far as a blackmail scheme, this seems like a pretty weird way of doing it. Does anyone know who these 3 guys are?

That’s what I’m talking about: “Willie has a ‘god’ complex.” And, who says? Because you think he has this “god complex” then it must be true? The fact of the matter is, many blacks—in some cases, present company included—believe the entire white community has a “god complex”. Does that make it true? Also, does this alleged “god complex” give businessmen the right to determine who should or should not run for mayor of this city? Are you comfortable with a few people wielding that kind of power? No businessmen should decide who should and should not run for this city’s top job, and no businessmen should try to force their will on the people. Add to that the fact that a lot of venom that has been used against Herenton has to do with some people not liking him, not the job he is doing. I despise Bush. I believe he and Cheney should be turned over to the Hague for prosecution of war crimes. Becasue I don’t likt him, should I have been able to force him not to run for re-election? I think not. Every Memphian should be disgusted with the people possibly responsible for this fiasco.

Ok, TJ, there is discrimination coming from the white people. I acknowlege it. You know, it sad. From one black person to another one, TJ, let it go. Slavery, Jim Crowe it is all over. Your not facing facts and this will be the last time I talk about this one.

First of all, Herrington started all of this. He is a man that does not have a leg to stand on. And what he does is remarkable that even an educated person, as yourself, does not see or refuse to acknowledge. He is getting all the blacks to rally around him to keep his job. You guys are not seeing what is really going on. He is using you to further divide the city! And you and Fly and others are falling for it, hook, line, and sinker.

I reached out to you because you are smarter than that. Yes there is racism. Yes there was slavery and Jim Crowe. But that was then, what is the excuse now? Why is what somebody says about Herrington gotta be black and white. He has said some things about the white community, but I don’t see you speaking on that either.

You said in metioned in one of your post how slavery and Jim Crowe has affected Black people. Ok, let me acknowlege this too. Slavery ended in 1865. Then there was 100 years of oppression in Jim Crowe. Civil rights bill was signed about 1963 or 65…So we are actually 40 years out of slavery. I was born in 1966. Surely I know my history, but I was not affected by slavery or Jim Crowe. I don’t acknowledge anyone who treats me other than a man. A name is just a name. So all the racisim you see is a smoke screen to me of the real issue: IS YOUR MAYOR AFFECTIVE. I want you to answer that one.

I want to say this. Willie’s is ineffective and has been for a long time. He is only making waves because, as PEB has said, he is keeping the black community and us whites stirred up. He can only be effecive in that way. He is worthless and it is a sad day that if he leaves office he will get 2 pensions, one from MCS that he gets now and one for City of Memphis as Mayor. That used to be called double dipping and I seem to remember that was outlawed quite some years back. What’s wrong with that? Also, some have said that a lot of black politicians use politics as a way to get retirement income.

The only thing that the mayor is affective at is getting people like TJ to rally around him. The mayor had everything to do with NOT stopping this race war. It only helps him because he gets college graduates like TJ to support him and everybody else is just either bigots or dumb.

I say to you that it is the reverse. The mayor, his supporters, his cronies, are the issue, and I say if you kill the source (the mayor) the limbs will die off. Meaning the only way that you start to get relief from this incompentent man is to elect someone else.

But since my own people cannot see the forest for the trees, I suggest to resonalble thinking people to move out of Memphis and don’t spend any money in the city. That will wake those up who support this man. Unfortunally, you have to in essence kill Memphis to get it back!

What he says is true. The people aren’t united and haven’t been. However so, it is his duty as the leader of this city to at least make an attempt. This is a prime example of the effectiveness of the mayor bill gang, and the indiscriminate use of MHA rent vouchers, and MHA administered Section 8 to absolutely destroy neighborhoods … and, their inability to control crime.

Look at the census numbers from 1990 & 2000. Income actually increased, but the area went from 75/25 W/B to 80/20 B/W. The population actually increased by 1020 residents, or 18%.

Although the household income stayed pretty much constant, the tremendous influx of blacks and the increase in crime caused businesses to leave the area. This has happened in every area of Memphis, where the same demographic flux phenomena occurred.

    Prove me wrong … ANYONE.

TJ, what do you say, the flyreborn is right. When blacks move in they bring crime and all manner of trouble with them. As to the plot to embarrase Harrington with a sex plot, give me a break! Who is fooling who? For the people who support Harrington, a sex plot would enhance his appeal!! If some fool other than Harrington supporters were behind this joke, they need to be arrested for stupidity!!!

I know that crime is commited by the majority, which are blacks. I will admit that. If the majority what white, I would expect that the majority would be white. That is really neither here or there. The fact is that crime (no matter which race commits the most) is basically overlooked by this administration.

There is gang violence, black on black, black on white, white on black and white on white crimes that are being overlooked. There are white collar crimes that are being overlooked. Crime is crime no matter who does it, it is still crime. This administration is having you focus on race and the bad side of race, than to try to ease the relationships between blacks and whites.

This administration is responsible for what happens to his/her city. The statement that was made that “I didn’t create it.” is reprehesible. Although he may not have created it, he has not done anything to try to solve it. He has not reached out to the community to heal it. Is that his fault? He is the mayor and mayors do everything to have thier city shine in a positive mannor. This mayor does care about whites or blacks.

He is drawing black people in with this sex scandal by saying, I told you that they were taking me down. And you are buying into it. Maybe he was set up, but look around in South, North, East, Midtown, Whitehaven, Hickory Hill, Westwood areas. There has been no improvement in the past 10 years. He is responsible for that.

My favorite TV show is The Apprentice. “The Donald” has two teams with two Project Managers. When a team looses, the responsiblity bascally rides on the Project Manager and on a lot of cases, the Project Manager gets the “Your Fired” line. The mayor is the “Project Manager” and the city council and the rest are on his team. The city council are his puppets and should be fired. The mayor should be fired, because everything rolls up to him. No matter if he did or did not start this race issue, it got worse under his watch. He should be fired.

even if there were a white majority here the crime would still be commited by blacks. You speak of South, North, East, Midtown, Whitehaven, Hickory Hill, Westwood areas, all these are high crime ares. A white man needs to be mayor with an all white city council. Things just run smoother under white leadership.

    Don’t fault the Phantom

    At peb:

What you “suspect” is as far from the truth as can be. The rates at which blacks commit crimes, especially violent crime, is many, many multiples of the white rates.

For instance … Memphis had ~165 murders in 2007. Whites perped only two (2) of them. Similar rations for forcible r*a*p*e, armed robbery, aggravated a*s*s*ault, carjacking, etc.

    Get the picture??

Let me try this … If there were no blacks in Memphis, there would have been only 2 murders in 2007, not ~165.

At Fly and Phantom and TJ:

Since there are so many crimes committed by black people, and all white people are bigots, then why don’t you guys move to a city that is all white for Fly and Phantom, and for TJ move to an all black city? The only thing that I see from all of your post is bigotry. Some people want to settle the race discussions, you people want to fan the flames.

Why don’t Fly and Phantom move to Middle Tennessee and for TJ move somewhere in Mississippi where there no white people. For Fly and Phantom, there will be no white crime and for TJ, there aren’t any bigots.

For most people, both black and white, they want to resolve this race issue that apparently the mayor or the city council will not. They want to live in harmony with each other and take on the task of healing a broken city. You guys want to point fingers.

So Fly and Phantom, you are so right. Black people are committing more crimes than whites, and TJ, the “Man” wants to keep black people down. Are you satisfied? I want solutions, not fanning flames and finger pointing, in which you are so good at. Come up with solutions, if that is not asking too much for you, or take my solutions and get out of Memphis.

The “fact” of the matter is, you will be a victim of violent crime. The “fact” of the matter is, you are in no position to tell anyone about theie “attitude”, when yours is so juvenile. The fact of the matter is, Herenton won the election…again. Get used to it. The fact of the matter is, the attitude displayed on this forum gives us no desire to vote for anyone white, because we see clearly how pathetic and whiny many whites are. The “fact” of the matter is, that we having this forum discussion proves that there was some truth to this sex plot. We really don’t care what you people “think”; if you people could think, we might be impressed.

Kenneth Whalum needs to sit down before his big mouth gets him in trouble. The only reason he is pandering to Drama King Willie is because his wife is one of Willie’s political appointees.

And he better be careful with his “wanting a black person only” for the job unless he desires a discrimination lawsuit. That sh*t is illegal! White people can’t discriminate and neither can he with his black separatist self.

    1) Chances are, you’re a republican. As such, you wouldn’t vote for a black anyway. That’s how republicans are. Undercover bigots.
    2) Whalum said, “That was his preference”. As such, if a qualified person of another race, applied for the position, I think he would be considered. Since you are not qualified to apply for this position, why is it any oncern of yours?

You know, this back and forth fiasco I have had to endure with some of you while posting on this site is pathetic. There are times when I call no names, but have some people who claim to be Christians thanking the very bigots that try to torment me. These same bigots have urged George to “ban” me. Well, after this one, I’m not going to be too popular.
The 40th anniversary of the murder of Dr. King is upon us. Many of you would love to have a holiday in honor of his killer. That is how backwards and ungodly many of you are. You blmae the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for “inciting hatred” when you people have done more than enough already for us to hate you until the end of time. Neither Jesse, Al nor Javier did anything to incite anyone; you did. The sad part is many of you are too stupid to see how bigoted you really are. You rant and rave about Jesus, but the truth of the matter is almost none of you really know him. Some white people are pretty good, but the most of them are not trustworthy. As one simpleton loves to say, that is a fact. I don’t “hate” any of you idiots; I actually feel sorry for you. For many of you, ignorance is bliss. Unfortunately, the same people are too stupid to know just how ignorant they really are. If I offended you, I don’t care. I didn’t call any names purposely, but if the shoe fits…
