So, the MPD unveiled its new Real Time Crime Center Wednesday to much fanfare. The center cost 4 million dollars and is packed with digital screens and cameras around downtown and each school. Director Godwin says the center is better than the one it’s based on in New York.
The question is whether the $4 million price tag is worth it. The center can’t necessarily stop crime, just record it as its happening. Information will be sent to officers on laptop computers or PDA’s which could speed up arrests.
Do you think this will help reduce crime in Memphis?
