Webb Raise

Shelby County School Superintendent Dr. Bobby Webb will get a 32% raise and administrators will also get raises. Teachers will get a 2% bump. Many are questioning whether this is the right time for raises for anyone. People expect school employees to make a decent living but 32% ? Webb’s contract dictates his salary be raised to match superintendents of other large districts in Tennessee. Webb will go from $175,000 a year to $231,000. That’s still well below Dr. Kriner Cash’s salary of $258,000.

What do you think?

A 2% raise? That’s hardly enough to deal with the gas prices that are skyrocketing out of control. And, why does Webb need such a high increase? Couldn’t this money be spent somewhere else (like on the kids)? That is way to high an increase for one person.

Give the TEACHERS the 32% – not the super.

Dr. Webb may or may not need or even deserve a raise but it is in his contract, which is a legal and binding document. This is what he and the school system negotiated previously and they cannot renege on their agreement.

i agree with his raise but i also feel that the teachers should be paid more as well.we accept the fact that corporate ceo’s make millions for running their companies, but let’s not forget those who helped to prepare them for such a task and careers…………TEACHERS!

The teachers that are teaching our children need to be compensated even more so than a superintendent. PAY THE TEACHERS!

Good point, Audrey, but some people want to see one man get all the money at the expense of the rest of the people (see Tatsachen’s post)

Tatsachen made the point in the post…it is in Webb’s contract. Look at the salary Cash got, for goodness sake. If I recall, MCS has ~ $8000 per year per student. That is alot of money. I can’t for any reason understand why a MCS student not know how to read, write, or know where the country of England is on a map or give correct change without being told by a cash register.
So with that kind of money, teachers are being paid. However with the calibre of some of the students, they need combat pay.

That is ludicrous. That defies all logic. They should be arrested for public corruption.
