MLGW will pay local attorney Robert Spence more than $400,000 for legal bills related to Lee being indicted for giving special treatment to Ed Ford when he was on the city council. Lee’s charges were dropped and now MLGW will pay his bills including one for a $175 phone call.

As much as the whining Republican majority on this forum will gripe and bellyache about it, if this was in Mr.Lee’s contract, that’s the way it is. This was a bogus prosecution from the start. I don’t blame Lee for this fiasco; I blame the government and the Republicans for orchestrating this illusion of wrongdoing on Joseph Lee’s part. There was never enough evidence to convict him, they knew it from the beginning, but they went ahead with this political witch hunt. If anything, the feds(and especially the Republican party) ought to reimburse the citizens of Memphis—not the whining majority who reside in suburbia and in other states—for a malicious, unnecessary and incompetent prosecution.
Doesn’t surprise me that we’ll have to pay his bill, as our bills continue to skyrocket.

So. There has been no comment for this topic. Imagine that!!!! Probably because they are stunned by Willie’s next move which was to make Mr. Lee a city employee once again. It amazes me how Mr. Herenton insults the intelligence of Memphis people and they continue to re-elect this guy back into office. He knows he can do what ever he wants because he relies on the people of Memphis to do NOTHING. It is almost like slapping people in the face and he sits back and laughs while the people of Memphis continue to take it.
I feel it not the responsibility of the utility to pay his legal fees. He should have been on top of the Ford mess-up the whole time. Why should we pay for his mess-up.
Pay his legal fees then give him another job with the City for over 100,000 a year.

This is amost funny. I think the mayor is sitting back and saying to the public “in your face” Not only will I hire him back, I’m giving him a job for $105,000 and he doesn’t even know what it is. And for questioning me you can also pay his legal bills. How much longer will we put up with this?

The ENTIRE Republican Party gathers together (someplace presumably well undetected by great Democrat minds…) to have a secret meeting about how to mess with this ONE (Democrat) individual? That somehow this is all a partisan action? They went after him only because of his devotion to the Democrat party?
